Artist Statement

When I travel, I always learn more about both the destination and where I came from. It is my pleasure and goal to share that excitement of learning new knowledge with you. I seek dramatic light and atmosphere to visually express this journey.

“Lumachrome” acrylic mount

The most exquisite method of displaying images. The image is mounted at the back of museum-grade acrylic, allowing details to emerge from deep within the photo. The result can be described as 3D and holographic.

Process

Some images are planned, others are found. I create each image with a healthy respect for the subject, and a desire to share it with a sense of nostalgia and whimsy. Finished pieces are presented on archival papers and canvas. Handle with care and they will last for generations. Enjoy!

Biography

My upbringing is peppered with small towns and cities across the midwest and south. I have a link to the latest one; it’s where I keep all my stuff.

My earliest memory with photography was with my father, who also had a photography passion. When I was 7, he invited me to keep him company in the darkroom. (Didn’t everyone have a darkroom in their house?) At that age, seeing a white sheet of paper turn into a photograph is magic. Everywhere we moved, my dad taught the yearbook class at local high schools and set up the darkroom. The darkroom was a constant, and the only formal training I have in photography is from the yearbook class.

I pursued a myriad of other interests in college: oil painting, design, architecture, computer systems, and marketing. After seven years I decided on fine art. During my final year, a three-week painting course in Tuscany forever changed how I saw the world. My surroundings became as fascinating as if I saw them for the first time.
