Oklahoma Art Festivals 2011 (I might get in some of these)

Oklahoma has such a tight-knit circuit of art shows that they seem like one big show that moves from city to city during the month of May. But once word got out that the big OKC festival was going to be held on the first weekend in May (and not the last weekend in April), rumors were running loose concerning a potential overlap in shows.."Well, what's going to happen to the Edmond show? It's usually held on the first weekend in May!! ..then if they move to the second weekend, what happens to the Lawton show? Then Tulsa Mayfest?? I don't know anymore, I'll just shrivel up in a corner and hope the world doesn't come to a screeching halt!"Lo and behold, common sense entered the room and a solution was found... The next three festivals decided to move around:(I'm bound to get in at least one of these!)

* - The shows I usually get in.At first glance, it looks like the dust has settled, and everybody should be happy. But what about Stillwater's show?

This past year, it was able to attract a slew of artists who usually attend the big OKC festival because the shows were only two days apart! But now, the "empty weekend" moved to Easter, and it would be mighty inconvenient for the OKC artists to add 11 more days to their already six-day-long hotel stay.Since I live in Stillwater (and have been for the past 15 years), I feel a special kinship with the show. I know some of the folks who work for Stillwater Multi Arts -- the organizers of the festival, and having worked for a downtown computer store (even though it went out of business 10 years ago), I know what such an event means to the downtown area. This is a "big thing" for Stillwater.Inviting the OKC 'regulars' to Stillwater was a genius move on the part of Stillwater Multi Arts, but even without them this year, I think we'll do fine. Heck, the show kept going in 2006, even though it was cold, rainy, and all 35 of the artists were out in the mud!
