Photography Workshop! (Feb 27)

There's a first time for everything, so with assistance from the Stillwater Art Guild, I will be putting on my first ever photography workshop!

This will focus on my development process & post-processing techniques using Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop. (I'm giving away all my secrets!)

  • Your camera
    • Using RAW files instead of JPG (when possible)
    • Using Manual mode
    • Connecting to your computer
  • Adobe Lightroom
    • Importing and cataloging images
    • RAW editing ("non-destructive")
    • Exporting to a contact sheet or web gallery
    • Exporting to Photoshop for further editing
  • Adobe Photoshop
    • Basic Editing
      • Filters
      • Layers
      • Brushes
    • Advanced Editing ("non-destructive")
      • Adjustment Layers
      • Masks

Requirements

  • Bring your camera
    • DSLR preferred, but point-and-shoot cameras should work fine
    • Bring cables for connecting your camera to your computer
  • If bringing a computer (optional)
    • The cost is $100 for one-on-one training
    • Laptop preferred. You may bring a desktop, but be mindful of time constraints for setting it up and taking it back down.
  • If you prefer to take notes (without a laptop)
    • The cost is $50, but you are encouraged to pick up on any tips given to individual users
    • arrange with another guild member to share theirs. (Due to space constraints: maximum of two people per computer)
  • Adobe Photoshop
    • If you have Photoshop
      • Make sure it’s installed and functioning before the start of the workshop
      • It must be a "CS" version (Photoshop LE and Photoshop Elements are lacking some of the features that I will cover)
    • If you don’t have Photoshop
      • Download a free and fully-functional 30-day trial from : http://adobe.com/downloads (hover your mouse over Photoshop CS4 Extended and click "try")
      • The download file is 815MB. If you do not have fast internet access, contact me and I will sent it to you on a DVD disc.
      • Do not install the trial before Feb 1, 2010. If you do, the 30-day trial will expire before the workshop starts.
  • Adobe Lightroom (technically called “Adobe Photoshop Lightroom”)
    • If you have Lightroom
      • Make sure it’s installed and functioning before the start of the workshop
      • Version 2 preferred, but v.1 will still cover most of the features. (Adobe has released a beta version of v.3 if you want to experiment with it.)
    • If you don’t have Lightroom
      • Download a free and fully-functional 30-day trial from : http://adobe.com/downloads (hover your mouse over Photoshop Lightroom and click "try")
      • The download file is 146MB. If you do not have fast internet access, contact me and I will sent it to you on a CD or DVD disc.
